On Assignment in the UK

I guess it was their way of trying me out. Also an opportunity – for them.  In the early 1970’s I was send to the UK about once a year. They liked what I wrote and turned them into a kind of feature. I was saddened by these visits. They had a profound impact on me. The pieces below were entirely personal,  not for the newspaper, just based on notes I made at the time. I worked on the notes in later years, and thought I might try to publish them. They were always rejected.
